Non-English Python Resources

Here are links to Python documents in languages other than English, including things like Python documentation translations, articles, and mailing lists.

If you are considering starting an effort to translate some python documentation into another language, you may want to join a public mailing list created for people working on non-english translations of Python documentation.

  • The Python Tutorial is available in Bulgarian, thanks to Kaloian Doganov. Please contact him if you'd like to help translate to Bulgarian!

• Esperanto
  • A Python tutorial in Esperanto by Bill Harris.

• French
  • Python Blanc Bleu Belge is a page of Python news and information maintained by the Belgian Free Software Programmers Club.

  • Learning Python, by Mark Lutz and David Ascher, has now been translated into French by Olivier Berger, S�bastien Tanguy and J�r�me Kalifa. It's in French bookstores as Introduction � Python.

  • Tutoriel Python, a tutorial written by J�r�me Tschanz.

  • French translations of Python Documentation.

  • First French Python Day - May 28 1999, near Paris. Organized by PSA member ONERA. Some resources:
    • Slides of Guido van Rossum's talk (PowerPoint, in English).

  • At Olivier Berger's Python site you'll find various packagings of a French translation of the Python tutorial, including:
    • an online HTML version,
    • tar.gz and zip archives of it, and
    • dvi and postscript renderings.

• German
  • Einführung in Python is a translation of Learning Python by David Ascher & Mark Lutz into German by Christian Tismer for O'Reilly Germany.

  • Mit Python Programmieren by Tobias Himstedt and Klaus M�nzel.

  • Das Python-Tutorium is a German translation of the Python Tutorial. The translation was performed by Dinu Gherman.

  • Tobias Himstedt wrote a (german-language) article for the german magazine, iX.

  • Das Python-Buch by Martin von Loewis and Nils Fischbeck. See also Addison-Wesley/Germany's entry for the book.

  • Python - kurz & gut. The German translation (by Christian Tismer) of Mark Lutz' Python Pocket Reference. O'Reilly Germany.

• Russian
  • General Python information in the Russian language provided by Zaur Shibzoukhov.

  • A Russian translation of the Python Tutorial by Sultanbek Tezadov. Here is an an alternate location for the translation.

  • Sultanbek Tezadov has also made translations of the Python essays to Russian available.

• Spanish

• Hungarian

  • Python Mini Reference, translated from Chris Hoffmann's A Python Quick reference. (Provided by Zsolt Hever.)

  • Tkinter in Hungarian, based on Matt Conway's Tkinter Life Preserver. Also contains links to Fredrik Lundh's Tkinter Resources. (Provided by Zsolt Hever.)

  • The friendly snake (or The snake hiding in the shadow). Published in the Hungarian Edition of the Chip Magazine in July, 1999. It is a brief introduction to Python. (Provided by Zsolt Hever.)

• Portuguese
  • A Portuguese translation of the Instant Python, a 6-page minimal crash course by Magnus Lie Hetland. (Provided by Wanderlei Antonio Cavassin.)

  • A presentation based on the Python Reference Manual (but not a translation) made by Marcelo Pereira Nunes to his local Special Interest Group on Programing Languages (GRULING).

    Luciano Ramalho has made available his Aprenda a Programar (Learn to Program) primer, written especially for non-programmers.

• Italian
  • The Italian Python Web site is maintained by Marco Buzzo. Very comprehensive, with much original material.

  • Marco is also hosting an Italian mailing list. To join, email [email protected].

  • Alex Martelli maintains another Italian Python website; for starters, it has translations of two of Magnus Hetland's articles (with permission).
